ABSTRACT

The Covid-19 pandemic has made face-to-face learning unable to take place in class. Therefore, ICT from various platforms is the main choice that must be used, especially in Indonesian language learning for junior high schools. However, the efforts to improve the professionalism of Indonesian language teachers in utilizing ICT for online learning have not been carried out. This study aims to describe 1) the learning tools that utilize ICT, 2) the use of ICT in learning, and 3) the obstacles to the using of ICT in Indonesian language learning at the junior high school level in Buleleng Regency, Bali. This research method is descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques were carried out using observation, interview, and documentation study techniques. The data were analyzed with the principle of TPACK used in learning. The results show that 1) learning tools that utilize ICT contain components that are integrated with internet technology, 2) ICT in Indonesian language learning at the junior high school level is used to deliver assignments, explain concepts, discuss, and evaluate learning, 3) the obstacles in utilizing ICT by Indonesian language teachers, among others, students lack enthusiasm for learning, poor internet network, and some students are not skilled yet in using applications/technology. Theoretically, this study has an implication to second language learning, especially on Indonesian language using TPACK principle, both in school and higher study level. © 2022, International Journal of Information and Education Technology. ABSTRACT

Numerous studies have been conducted on education during the Covid-19 pandemic, but none have been done on efforts to improve students’ social intelligence throughout the pandemic. The objective of this study was to illustrate how folktales were used to improve students’ social intelligence in Kedurang Bengkulu while they were studying at home, given that social ability is one of key aspects of life (Salavera et al., 2017). The researchers collected the necessary data using a mixed method approach. Statistical analysis, observations, interviews, and documentation studies were used to obtain the data. This study revealed that folktales could be used as educational materials to help students enhance their social intelligence. It was based on the result of statistical analysis that showed the value of t-score is -45.633 with a P value of 0.000 < 0.05, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the mean score of the pre-test and post-test. Additionally, it was supported by the results of interviews with several teachers, families, and students. The utilization of folktales as a learning resource was able to shape students’ social intelligence in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. © 2022 Eskisehir Osmangazi University. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Distance learning is a learning process that allows students and instructors are in different physical locations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, various countries including Indonesia chose the distance learning option to avoid the spread of the pandemic. However, the implementation of distance learning is not without problems. In Indonesia, the problems to implement distance learning are enormous both in terms of equitable distribution of infrastructure and costs for accessing the internet. To overcome these problems, research about best distance learning tools and its implementation strategy is really needed. Therefore, this research aimed to analyze the strategies and tools for implementing distance learning that reliable and cost-effective for the student at the same time. Based on research that has been conducted by analyzing questionnaire surveys of 256 students in Indonesia, this research recommends tools combination strategy consists of Google Classroom tool as a learning app, Whatsapp group as broadcast messaging and Zoom as a video conference media for distance learning. This research also recommended to maximize the e-learning/learning app features for theoretical lessons and consider video conference just in practical lessons so that the distance learning costs become cheaper for students. © 2020 International Information and Engineering Technology Association.
